Great Amber · Liepaja · Letonia

450 Downito® 90 make the concert hall “Great Amber” shine.

The Multifunctional Center & Concert Hall “Great Amber” located in Liepaja, the third biggest city of Latvia, has been designed by the renowned Austrian architect, Professor Volker Giencke, whose project won an international competition of designs for the concert hall. The building evokes associations with music captured in amber.

The new concert hall is one of the biggest in the Baltic region, featuring 1080 seats. The project Great Amber consists of the concert hall, chamber music Hall, rehearsal rooms and additional spaces.

The Great Amber is a new and a vivid accent in the architectonic image of the city, and tremendous opportunity for audiences to see acclaimed artists perform at the concert hall, known for its outstanding acoustic properties. The building will also offer various areas that are functionally adaptable for a great variety of cultural and art events, corporate events, banquets, conferences, lectures, etc.

The concert wall, the largest area of the building with a total surface of 1,169.5 m², is where LED Downlight Downito® 90 by Grupo MCI has been installed to light up this musical and cultural temple.

Downito® 90 is an adjustable LED downlight multi-power (8 W to 19 W), perfect for accent lighting. The design of its actives reflectors (30 º, 45 º and 70 º) allows distributing light with unique precision and high performance up to 120 lm/W. Furthermore, this LED downlight offers the possibility of combine 4 types of passive reflectors in different finishes; white, black, aluminum and copper.

Design, precision and high performance are the perfect combination for the success of this type of lighting projects.

Downito® range was designed two years ago in collaboration with Bartenbach GmbH, an Austrian company focused on the design of lighting concepts and systems based both natural and artificial lighting, that it was also involved on the lighting planning from Great Amber.

The shape, unique interior and excellent acoustics of “Great Amber” permit to say that a visit to this centre of the culture of the Baltic Sea region will surely become an unforgettable experience!

Mr. Volker Giencke commented: “We wish to give the city a new identity – cultural identity, and the concert hall will provide an excellent foothold for achieving this. I’m convinced that the development of the city, and the entire humanity, is only possible thanks to culture.”
